Guess Who’s Back?

Content provided by Inside Mississippi State Sports with Brad Locke.

My relaxing holiday in St. Louis now complete, I turn my attention back to the beat. How poetic. Anyway, much thanks to online editor Todd Vinyard for keeping y’all posted in my absence. Good man.

I jump back into things today with men’s hoops. MSU (8-5) hosts Houston (8-2) at the Hump. Remember, middle school and high school basketball teams can get in free as a group. Tipoff is 3 p.m., and it’ll be broadcast on CSS (Jim Ellis and ex-Bulldog Shane Power with the call). State is coming off a tough loss to San Diego.

Some interesting notes and numbers about MSU’s five losses: The Bulldogs have trailed at halftime in each one; in four of them, they shot less than 45 percent from the field; in four of them, they were out-rebounded; in three of them, they lost the turnover battle.

Other notes:

• Junior C Jarvis Varnado has 302 career blocks, making him the fifth SEC player to reach the 300 milestone.

• MSU hasn’t won two straight games since starting the season 5-0.

• Houston leads this series 5-0. In the Cougars’ last visit to Starkville, they won 68-62 on Nov. 30, 1983.

• Houston was 24-10 last year and reached the NIT.
