Ole Miss has two of its last three games at home beginning tomorrow at 3 with Alabama.
You look at records for Alabama and Arkansas and an interim coach at Alabama, and there’s the temptation to think winning two out of three will be easy.
It won’t be, particularly not Saturday, and the biggest reasons are Alonzo Gee and the confidence he’s bringing to the Crimson Tide right now.
Gee has always been a multi-purpose threat on the floor, but he comes in having hit eight of his last 10 3-point shots and scored 23-plus in two straight Alabama wins.
Interim coach Phillip Pearson cites improved team defense, and I’m sure there’s some of that going on, but Gee is clearly the difference on offense for Alabama right now.
Now …
Everybody plays better at home. That’s where the Tide has won the last two games, and that’s where confidence begins when a team is struggling.
It won’t be easy to translate that energy on the road, and the Rebels need a fast start to take full advantage of the added boost that everyone gets from their own zip code.
