Lane Kiffin signed a convicted rapist. Did he make the right decision?

I posed the question on our college football blog: Should Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin have signed a convicted rapist?
It certainly is a moral dilemma. Knoxville Catholic DE/TE Daniel Hood raped his cousin when he was 13. According to court records, Hood was tried as a juvenile and a jury found him to be delinquent “on the basis that he had committed the adult offenses of kidnapping and aggravated rape.” A co-defendant, who was 17 at the time of the assault, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the same crime.
Little Lane has done plenty in his tenure already to grab headlines. This won't help. But it comes down to this: Does Hood deserve a second chance? The victim voiced her support of Hood, along with many others. Or is what he did so heinous he does not deserve a college football scholarship?
How would you feel if Urban Meyer did this? What is the line when it comes to signing recruits?
