Notes from Lane Kiffin’s teleconference:
* Kentucky “is a big matchup for us.” UK is “as hot as anyone in the conference.”
* Tight end Luke Stocker “has had a big-time impact. He’s had a great season.” “I think he’ll be a potential All-American player next year.” Asked about his problems with drops last year, Kiffin said, “Well, he hasn’t had that issue with us.”
* Kiffin can’t remember the last time he had a Thankgiving meal with his dad. “Probably 15 years.”
* Kiffin said the tv contract is great, but he’s not particularly excited about a cold 7pm kickoff in Lexington on Saturday. “It does make for a bunch of different schedules.)
* Kiffin thinks the bowl will have a hard time deciding who goes where because the league is so balanced now. “The seniors at Kentucky have won just as many games as the senior class at Tennessee. Times have changed.”
* Asked to compare the SEC to the Pac-10, Kiffin said the SEC has “better front sevens” on defense. The Pac-10 has “better passing games” because of the quarterbacks in that league.
* The players know that Kentucky will be a tough challenge and that there’s still a lot at stake.
* Even when players are committed, “down here no one’s gonna leave ‘em alone. We still recruit them as if they’re not committed.”
* Asked about Jonathan Crompton, Kiffin said, “I think we have a great relationship. I really thought he was gonna have a great year. He has all the tools.” When his receivers got healthy and he got comfortable in the system, Crompton’s season turned around.
