So here we are, in the midst of the NCAA and NIT tournaments.  In the NCAA so far, we have had a few upsets (note:  I don’t consider any 9-8 game an upset), but my favorite so far was Cleveland State over Wake.  I called this shot, and told my wife on selection Sunday that and Western Kentucky vs. Illinois were two likely upsets.  Of course, I didn’t have time to fill out brackets (work has been a crushing burden lately), and have seen very few games.

Now, for the news.

Kentucky Basketball News

  • Joe B. Hall says UK will bounce back.  He should know.
  • Creighton dissing the ‘Cats in their media notes?  Jerry Tipton wonders.
  • ‘Bama fans are hoping Gillispie keeps his job so as not to interfere with their coaching search.  An open UK position would undoubtedly muddy the waters.
  • Happy belated birthday to Darius Miller.
  • Danny Jett has an interesting analysis of Billy Gillispie.  I don’t agree that not playing zone is necessarily a con.  There are a lot of great coaches who eschew the zone.
  • Bobby Perry shares his thoughts about UK basketball this year with Larry Vaught.  Perry defends his right to have and speak his opinion about UK, and I agree with him wholeheartedly.  We defended Mike Casey’s right to hold and speak his opinion even if it isn’t consistent with the opinion of our editorial staff (in other words, me and Ken), and Bobby Perry is surely entitled to the very same.
  • Mr. SEC calls out Kentucky, Arkansas, and various other fans for wanting coaches fired after only a short time on the job.  He makes a strong and compelling argument.
  • Jon Hood is confident Coach Gillispie will be back next year.
  • True Blue Kentucky has some links to UK related news.
  • Jerry Meyer of Rivals has some quotes on Konner Tucker.

Other Kentucky Sports News

  • THIS is an SEC football fan, and you can be assured he has a lot of company.
  • A Kentucky transfer, Brandon Jackson, was on the sidelines of the Liberty Bowl this year.  He’ll be eligible to play next year.
  • Jerry Tipton looks at UK vs. Creighton.
  • Remember Rajon Rondo coach Doug Bibby?
  • Marshall Moses — remember him?  He was a factor in the OSU defeat of Tennessee.

NCAA Basketball News

  • Louisville defeats scrappy Morehead State.
  • Peter Bean has thoughts on round one of the NCAA tournament.
  • Gonzaga is wary of Western Kentucky’s back court.  Western and Gonzaga have played before recently in the Great Alaska Shootout.
  • Everybody wants Tubby Smith, according to this Minneapolis Star-Tribune report.  Gopher Nation needs to calm down — I don’t think he is going anywhere.
  • Alligator Army digs Florida State’s demise … a lot.

Other NCAA Sports News

  • The Capstone Report points out that some people don’t like the rich getting richer in college football, and laments the efforts of the NCAA to “improve” the game.

Other News of Interest

  • Bluegrass State Basketball previews Covington Holmes vs. Elliot County and West Jessamine vs. Louisville Central.
