OLE MISS FOOTBALL NEWS – 10/17/08

To get you ready for Ole Miss versus Bama, here’s the news coming out of Oxford this morning:
At 6′5, 318 pounds, left tackle Michael Oher had always considered himself to be a physical player. But he wasn’t physical enough for new coach Houston Nutt’s tastes. “I definitely had to prove myself coming back for my senior year,” Oher said. “I kept hearing about that (being more physical). I had to prove it, and I feel like I’ve done a good job. Coach (Mike) Markuson and coach (Don) Decker, they got me better. I’m two times the player I was last year because of those guys.”
Sack specialist Greg Hardy can be a difference-maker this weekend against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. If he decides to be. But that’s the on-going issue with Hardy… sometimes he shows up, sometimes he just goes through the motions (and gets yanked from the field by his coaches). “All I can tell you is that when he turns it on, he’s as good as there is,” said defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix. “When he plays to the best of his ability, our chances of success go way, way up.”
There hasn’t been a lot of sharing the wealth when it comes to the Rebels’ receiving corps. Shay Hodge and Dexter McCluster have caught the bulk of Jevan Snead’s passes. But offensive coordinator Kent Austin isn’t worried about individual stats, nor should he, with his unit averaging 29 points per game.
