OLE MISS FOOTBALL NEWS – 9/24/08

Houston Nutt knows that if his Ole Miss Rebels are to have ANY chance against Florida on Saturday, they can’t turn the football over. So far this season, they’ve done that 11 times in four games… and that’s just not going to cut it.
Despite the turnovers, Nutt doesn’t plan on dumping “the Wild Rebel” package from his offense, even though it involves elaborate fakes, handoffs, and reverses.
“I don’t consider that extravagant. I think our ballhandling has been good. What we’ve got to do is work hard at taking care of it not matter what formation we’re in.”
One of the guys who needs to take better care of the ball is quarterback Jevan Snead. At one point, it appeared that Snead might be lining up on the other sideline of this weekend’s game.
“I guess it was at the end of my junior year (in high school) I committed to Florida and thought I was going to be going there. When I committed, they said they were not going to be recruiting other quarterbacks — and it didn’t really work out like that.”
Nope. Tim Tebow happened, Snead went to Texas and eventually transferred to Mississippi.
David Brandt of The Jackson Clarion-Ledger caught up with defensive tackle Jerrell Powe… you know, the guy who waited for three years to get cleared to play… and had a little Q&A with the man Rebel fans have been longing to see.
