There are lots of rumors swirling today regarding the former defensive coaching staff of Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee.
As you know, Lane Kiffin blew up the the defensive coaches immediately upon arrival in Knoxville. The Volunteers ranked in the Top 10 nationally in defense last season.
John Chavis is now reported to be Les Miles’ next defensive coordinator at LSU, but that will not be officially announced until after the Tigers’ bowl game tomorrow.
And that’s where our rumor dominoes start to fall:
Rumor One – It is believed that Chavis would like to bring either Dan Brooks (defensive tackles) or Steve Caldwell (defensive ends) with him to LSU from the Tennessee staff.
Rumor Two – If there is not room at LSU for Caldwell, don’t be surprised to see him wind up on Houston Nutt’s staff at Ole Miss… IF Tracy Rocker leaves the Rebels for his alma mater, Auburn. Caldwell would be the likely replacement for Rocker.
Rumor Three – If there is not room at LSU for Brooks, don’t be surprised to see him wind up on Florida’s staff… IF current D-line coach Dan McCarney (looking for a head coaching job) departs Gainesville. Brooks and UF defensive coordinator Charlie Strong are friends and were graduate assistants together at Florida years ago.
Rumor Four – Actually, this is more of an actual story… former UT secondary coach Larry Slade will reportedly take the secondary coach’s slot at Louisville.
