SOUTH CAROLINA LANDS TWO DEFENSIVE PLAYERS

South Carolina has received commitments from two defensive prospects.
Linebacker Matt Coffee from Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) High School committed to South Carolina after visiting the campus last weekend.
The visit to Columbia was all Coffee needed to choose South Carolina.
Coffee played just five games as a junior due to mono yet managed 60 tackles and three sacks. He likes the plan the Gamecocks have set up for him.
“I felt it was a good fit and I had fun,” Coffee said. “I liked everything about Columbia. The stadium is beautiful and they have nice facilities.”
South Carolina’s other commitment came from defensive end Aldrick Fordham from Timberland High School in St. Stephen, S.C.
Fordham chose South Carolina over Tennessee.
Fordham said as recently as last week that he planned to visit both schools before making a decision. Instead, he decided to be a Gamecock.
“It was close to home and I grew up rooting for them,” Fordham said. “They seem to do a lot of stunts and blitzes and a lot of moving around (on defense), and I like that. It seems like a very exciting place to play. I feel confident about them winning the SEC Championship. They’ve made some good runs and in the next two years or so we’ll be there.”
