The Capital One Bowl Might Be Losing Its Luster

Each year the Capital One Bowl gets the first pick of non-BCS teams from the SEC.
Each year the Capital One Bowl is considered the best of the non-BCS bowls.
That could be changing according to… Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan.
According to Hogan, the SEC and the Big Ten have both been on the bowl to upgrade the aging Florida Citrus Bowl stadium. Unfortunately, it could be another 10 years before upgrades are made.
Hogan also says that because of this development — coupled with fancier stadiums being built for games like the Cotton Bowl outside of Dallas — the Capital One Bowl might lose first dibs on an SEC team.
Here’s the rub for fans — while the conference will want to play their game in the best/brightest new facility in the country (and thus get more info for corporate sales and luxury suites), most SEC fans would probably rather follow their team to sunny Orlando than chilly Dallas in the first week of January.
Florida is a traditional SEC locale. Dallas stills brings up images of the old Southwest Conference and now the Big 12.
But when have any of these types of moves ever had anything to do with the average, ticket-buying fan?
