89 Different Bracket Projections Mixed Together = 4 SEC Bids

8-team-bracketIf you’re unfamiliar with the 2013 Bracket Matrix, you should get familiar with it ASAP.  The site has taken 89 different NCAA Tournament bracket projections, pooled their picks together, and summarized the predictions into one mast list.  It’s geekery at its finest.

So according to most prognostications, which SEC teams land bids and what seeds do they receive?

If the experts are correct, Florida would earn a #1 seed if selections were made today.

Missouri would be a #9 seed.  That low seed for the league’s second-best team shows just how poorly SEC hoops is thought of this season.

Kentucky would get in as a #11 seed at the moment.  Ditto Ole Miss.

Alabama would be the 10th team out.  Arkansas would be the 12th team out.  And Tennessee would be the 14th team out.

We’ll give you our NCAA tourney projections for the SEC’s teams later today.

Thought Of The Day – 11/28/12

Good Wednesday to you.  Updates, rumors and our views on the SEC’s coaching searches still underway are coming your way ASAP.  After talking to one source last night and another this morning, we’ll also be eating a little crow (which, oh, so many of you will enjoy).  Plus, the latest on Jon Gruden… who he’s talked to and where he might land.  All that plus the usual headlines and news stories from around the league.

Before we get to all that though, we start with the first song off the iPod today.  For those who’ve never seen or heard of Daryl Hall’s web-turned-TV show “Live from Daryl’s House,” we invite you to Google the highly-acclaimed series now.  It’s a perfect example of an older artist using the web to connect with a younger fanbase.

Some of you who’ll remember “I Can’t Go For That” won’t know who the heck Cee Lo Green is.  And some of you who know who Cee Lo Green is won’t know the song “I Can’t Go For That” or the blond guy in shades singing it.  But this funked up version of a 30-year-old song works as well as or — dare I say? — better than the original.  That’s saying something for this #1 hit from January of ’82.

“Easy, ready, willing, overtime.  When does it stop?  Where do you dare me to draw the line?”

Thought Of The Day – 11/12/12

Happy Monday to you.  (Yeah, we know that’s technically impossible.)  Game reviews, headlines, news, views and the latest on the coach-firing-watches going on in Knoxville and Auburn today… all coming your way ASAP.

While you wait, here’s your morning lyrical inspiration.  It’s a very old Hall & Oates song as performed by Daryl Hall and Diane Birch.  First song up on the iPod today.

“There’s a thunder storm a brewin’ and the day is turning gray.  There ain’t much to say about the weather.”

A&M Puts Out Official “It Wasn’t Us” Statement Regarding Gainesville Billboard

Jason Cook — the VP of marketing and communications at Texas A&M — just sent his school’s official statement regarding the Gainesville billboard to MrSEC.com.  Here’s what it says:

“This billboard was not placed by Texas A&M University, and it is certainly not reflective of how we have handled our transition into the SEC. We are investigating aggressively, as we believe that our institutional trademarks have been infringed upon. Texas A&M has tremendous respect for the University of Florida, and we look forward to hosting the Gators in our first SEC football game this weekend.”

I don’t think anyone for a second believes the university was behind the placement of a trash-talking billboard in Gainesville, but it’s still a wise move by the folks at A&M to make that point explicitly clear.  If there’s anyone upset by this affair, you can bet it’s the people in the A&M administration and on the Aggie coaching staff.

As I stated in my initial post on this affair, all it takes is one oaf to ruin a party.  So was this oaf an Aggie, a Gator trying to motivate his own squad, or someone connected to another program altogether?  Clearly, the folks in College Station are trying to figure that one out ASAP.

VU Has Mastered The Art Of YouTube Recruiting

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again… Vanderbilt is leading the way in the SEC in terms of YouTube recruiting.  The Commodore athletic department — specifically its video wing — does a nice job of posting to the web several behind-the-scenes looks at the football program, glimpses of the coaches having fun with the players, and, yes, those heart-warming “here’s your scholarship” moments.

Below, another Vandy walk-on gets his scholarship.  Aside from the cheesy music, it’s another solid piece by the folks in Nashville.  Why ship these stories out to the media and have them sliced up and cut down?  Better to just post them online their own selves and get ‘em right in front of recruits’ eyes ASAP.

Love the Dores or hate the Dores, they understand online branding and online recruiting.

Mallett And Childs Will Play But Adams Is Out For Arkansas

Ryan Mallett and Greg Childs look to be good to go when Vanderbilt visits Arkansas tomorrow.  Last weekend against Ole Miss, Mallett bruised his throwing shoulder and Childs tweaked his ankle.

Also injuring his ankle in that game was receiver Joe Adams (photo at left)… and Adams will not be in uniform for the Hogs on Saturday.

In addition to being second on the team in catches, yards and touchdowns, Adams is also a key performer on Arkansas’ special teams units.  He scampered for a 97-yard touchdown on a punt return against the Rebels.

As we noted yesterday, it would probably be wise for Bobby Petrino to go for the jugular ASAP against Vandy.  The more time Mallett and Childs can spend on the sidelines with Adams, the more likely they are to be fully healthy for the Razorbacks’ stretch drive.
