Hogs RB Commit Cancels Announcement Ceremony

collins-arkansas-helmetOn Monday, five-star running back Alex Collins committed to Arkansas.  Today, he was supposed to announce his decision and sign his papers in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  But this afternoon, he’s canceled that ceremony in order to take more time to think about his future.

But this is where it gets even more interesting (horrible, if you’re a Razorback fan).  ESPNU reported that Collins’ mom actually “confiscated” her son’s letter of intent and left the school with it.  Reportedly, she wants Collins to say closer to home and attend Florida, Florida State or Miami.

You can bet a whole lot of fans — and coaches — are sweating this one from the Ozarks to the Keys.

“Dog eat your homework?”  “Nope, Mom stole my letter of intent.”

Florida WR Cunningham Picks Vandy Over Miami, FSU, And Stanford

mrsec-breaking-newsFour-star receiver Jordan Cunningham from Fort Lauderdale has announced he’ll be heading to Vanderbilt over Florida State, Miami and Stanford.  The 6-3 Cunningham is widely considered to be one of the 20 best receivers in the nation.

Kudos to James Franklin and his ability to sell Vandy as more than just a football program.  Cunningham announced that he’s working on “a 50-year plan” that includes playing receiver in college and then becoming a professional engineer and entrepreneur.  “Football’s going to end at some point and you have to have a backup plan,” Cunningham said.

While Cunningham seemed a little nervous during his presser, it’s clear the young man is very intelligent and has a great deal of perspective for his age.  Thumbs up to Cunningham and to Vanderbilt.

Eddie Jackson Commits To Alabama

Athlete Eddie Jackson from Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., has committed to Alabama.

“I like how the program is run,” Jackson said, per ESPN RecruitingNation. “It’s just everything that they stand for. I can be that guy from Fort Lauderdale, the first guy to come up there and have a chance, a chance to go up there and play.”

Jackson could play on offense or defense at Alabama with the expectation being he’ll play on defense.

“They want me to play defensive back,” said Jackson, who also considered LSU.

Alabama is also in the running for defensive backs Vonn Bell from Chattanooga, Tenn., and Tony Conner from Batesville, Miss. But Bell has shown strong interest in Tennessee and Conner is seriously considering Ole Miss.

Jackson’s commitment gives Alabama 22 commitments for the class of 2013. Signing day is Feb. 6.
