Thought Of The Day – 3/6/13

Congrats on reaching the middle of the workweek, America.  Congrats to Andy Kennedy for getting a much-needed win at Ole Miss.  Congrats to Missouri fans for vanquishing ex-coach Mike Anderson in loud and rowdy fashion.

And there’s plenty more SEC news on the way today.

As for the thought/lyric of the day, it came to my attention when this song popped up on the MrSEC.com iPod today that we push a lot of blues around here… but not a lot of blues by women.  Time to change that.  So please enjoy the supercharged sound of Ms. Koko Taylor.

“…When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips revealed the tears that were on my face.”

koko taylor I'd rather go blind

Good Lord, that woman could sing.

Welcome To The SEC: Home Of The High Hat

Scanning some recent posts, we noticed this amusing photo of SEC commissioner Mike Slive taken during the SEC baseball tournament.  From the look of things, it appears the commish has been getting hat-wearing tips from The Mad Hatter himself, Les Miles.

Perhaps this can become a new signature trend across the SEC.  Wear a cap high on your head to a game, then end said game by unleashing the obligatory “S-E-C, S-E-C, S-E-C” chant.

As Neneh Cherry once sang — Good Lord, am I really quoting Neneh Cherry? — “I’d like to introduce the hi-hat.”

Just sayin’.

SEC Headlines – 6/8/11 Part Three

1.  Remember when Terrelle Pryor had to promise to return to Ohio State for his senior year just so he could play against Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl?  Well, now he’s leaving OSU and some folks in the Natural State have noticed.  (Good Lord that was a terrible, unjust, stupid ruling by the NCAA in the first place.)

2.  The Hogs’ basketball roster still isn’t completely set as freshman Aaron Ross still has some academic work to do.

3.  Here’s one writer’s list of five potential SEC upsets this fall.

4.  And here are five more potential upset picks.

Oh, Good Lord… The Gruden To LSU Talk Has Started

Les Miles isn’t out the door yet but speculation about LSU’s next coach has already begun.  Take a big blond guess who’s at the center of the speculation.

Yep, according FootballScoop.com, “Several people of influence at LSU would like for AD Joe Alleva to contact Jon Gruden if Les Miles accepts the Michigan job.”

It was just a matter of time before Gruden’s name came up in connection to Baton Rouge.  It’s already come up regarding Miami — who he teased — Florida and Michigan this offseason.  But here’s the thing, if Gruden wasn’t interested in Florida’s job, why would he be interested in LSU’s.  Sorry, Tiger fans.

LSU is a tremendous job, but Gruden has turned into a Sunshine State man.  If a college job were in his future, it would likely be a college job in Florida.

Had this Miles-to-Michigan talk come up in early December, the man at the top of the LSU wish list might have been Will Muschamp.  But Jeremy Foley of Florida landed him (rather than Gruden).

So where might LSU actually turn if Miles jets for Ann Arbor?  Folks in Starkville are probably asking that question right now.
