OG Dunker Transferring From Florida After Legal Woes

jessamen-dunker-florida-scooter-stolenThe brief career of former hotshot prospect Jessamen Dunker has come to an end at Florida.  The offensive guard had been suspended from the Gator squad since his arrest in January for riding a stolen motorscooter on the UF campus.

Will Muschamp announced the transfer last evening:

“I met with Jessamen Dunker, matter of fact about an hour before I came in here.  He’s decided to transfer.  He and I just felt like he needed a fresh start.  He felt like he needed a fresh start, and I didn’t disagree with him.  Didn’t really get into where.  We’re going to continue to work through that.  It’s his job to finish up strong academically here at Florida…

Guys get in a situation and obviously he’s got some pretty well-documented off-the-field issues, and we talked about it and he felt like he needed a fresh start and I support him.”

Here’s hoping the redshirt freshman can work through the legal case that’s still open against him.  Perhaps this decision was more Dunker’s than Muschamp’s, but it’s certainly fair to wonder if Dunker might still be on the Gator team if Urban Meyer were still practicing his brand of “discipline” in Gainesville.

SEC Players On The Move 1/18/2013

Moving-Van1. Florida offensive lineman Jessamen Dunker.  He’s been suspended indefinitely by Will Muschamp after being arrested Wednesday on a stolen scooter.

2. Kentucky basketball player Willie Cauley-Stein. He had a “minor procedure” done on his left knee Thursday after aggrevating an old injury. John Calipari says he’s not sure if Cauley-Stein will be able to play Saturday against Auburn.

3. SEC players departing early for the NFL. Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel names five teams hardest hit by early departures – three of them are in the SEC.

4. LSU defensive tackle Josh Downs, defensive end Chancey Aghayere, offensive tackle Josh Dworaczyk and kicker Drew Alleman.  All four will participate in Saturday’s Raycom All-Star Classic Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.

5. Former Alabama player and current Cincinnati Bengals lineman Andre Smith.  Arrested Thursday in Atlanta after allegedly trying a board a plane with a .380 handgun in his carry-on bag.

SEC Commitment Comparison – 5/10/11

With Rivals.com releasing its initial Top 100 prospect list for 2012 on Monday, we thought it would be a good time to check the commitment numbers for each SEC football program.  Of the Rivals list, only five players are currently committed to SEC teams:

43.  Avery Johnson, WR — LSU
49.  Jessamen Dunker, OL — Florida
