Thought Of The Day – 9/3/12

Monday morning, Labor Day 2012.  Hope you’re not having to work today and can instead have a little fun.

As we put together today’s news as well as our weekend roundup of SEC action, your lyrical/musical inspiration of the morning is quite simple.  Take the classic “96 Tears” riff and throw in Morris Day and the Time.  First thing of the iPod this morning.

“Oh, Lawwwd.”

Troubled Ex-Deacon Woods Could Land At UK

Former Wake Forest center Tony Woods is looking for a new basketball team and Kentucky might be his eventual destination.  Woods took an unofficial visit to Lexington last week, but a few other schools are also interested in the big man.

Woods left Wake Forest after he was arrested last Labor Day due to altercation with his girlfriend.  He pled guilty to one count of misdemeanor assault on a female and was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service as well as an anger management class.

Woods was suspended indefinitely from the Demon Deacons’ basketball team and was eventually granted a release last October.

“This has all been very humbling,” Woods told Yahoo! Sports’ Jason King.  “I’m anxious for a new start.”

His girlfriend hopes he gets one.  “People think Tony is some sort of monster,” Courtney Barbour said.  “It’s frustrating to everyone around him, because we know that’s not the case.”

“We got into an argument, it escalated and I reacted poorly,” Woods said.  “I was definitely in the wrong.  I made a mistake.  But what got printed and what got said was blown out of proportion.”

Dino Gaudio — the former Wake coach who recruited Woods — told King that the player does not have anger problems or character issues.

“He didn’t beat up his girlfriend.”

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see the reaction if Woods lands at UK.
