That’s the big question in Lexington.
The former Wake Forest basketball player and one-time Louisville commit took an unofficial visit to Kentucky last week.
“I guess they’re the ones who ultimately have to give me the green light,” Woods said of Kentucky.
That’s because Woods left Wake Forest after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in September stemming from an incident with his girlfriend and mother of their child. Woods explained the guilty plea to the Louisville Courier-Journal in November.
“One reason I pleaded guilty is because one thing not really published in any newspapers that actually took place was I was holding my son during this whole incident,” Woods said. “That’s why it took place. She took an action, and I reacted poorly and pushed her.”
Now the question is which school Woods will attend. The center appears headed to Kentucky, according to Andy Katz of ESPN.com.
But Woods’ AAU coach, Mike Maynard, hinted that Texas could be the team to beat for Woods because of the Longhorns’ need for immediate help this year.
“Tony still has aspirations to play pro ball,” Maynard said. “I’m sure the chance to play right away makes it more favorable for Texas.”
Of course, there’s still the question of whether Kentucky should accept Woods into school because of his guilty plea to the assault charge. The Lexington Herald-Leader currently has a poll asking fans if the Wildcats should take Woods.
The results as of Thursday morning: 62 percent say yes.
