Nutt Asks Rebel Fans To “Stay Together”

It’s not a real good sign when the head coach of your football program has to take to the internet to ask fans to show up for a game.  But that’s exactly what Houston Nutt is having to do at Ole Miss this week.

Props to Kyle Veazey of The Jackson-Clarion Ledger for noticing Nutt’s video message posted on Ole Miss’ official YouTube channel.  You can see the video for yourself by clicking here.

As for Nutt’s message:

“Hi, I’m Houston Nutt, head football coach of the Ole Miss Rebels.  I’m sending you a video message to support our athletic teams, our administration, for the Ole Miss Rebels.  Last weekend’s crowd was awesome.  The atmosphere was unbelievable.  This weekend, we celebrate homecoming.  I need you back.  I need that atmosphere once again.  I need you there rockin’.  There’s nothing like the noise level, there’s nothing like the atmosphere.  Come, be loud, be proud, be a Rebel.  And don’t forget: We finish up with Mississippi State on our home turf.  Let’s stay together.”

Spoken like a man who anticipates more fans in The Grove than in the stadium on Saturday.

Last week UM had it’s fourth-largest crowd ever.  Result: A 51-31 loss to Auburn.  As Veazey points out, “With Louisiana-Lafayette coming to town Saturday and with his team sporting a 3-5 record, attendance will surely be down.”
